Species Management Plan
Last September we went to Durango Nature Studies Nature Center to conduct a field work. After this trip we realized that the bullfrogs were not letting the leopard frogs live in freedom so we decided that we should create a plan to increase leopard frog population and decrease bullfrogs'. We thought about what else could be affecting and we found that some parameters of the water quality were not appropriate.(The phosphates for example were high which means that an algal bloom can happen in any moment).
In the article "Time to stop worrying about invasive species" we can read how many scientist say that we shouldn't judge a specie for were it comes from because the climate change is making a lot of species leave their homelands and go to another place were they can perfectly live. This article says that being indigenous doesn't grant a species special rights to inhabit an ecosystem and that the invaders boost biodiversity.
After study during almost three months how the bullfrogs have affected to local Coloradoan species, I can perfectly state that the bullfrogs should be a concern in Colorado because they are literally eating native species. I admit that probably the invasive species are not a concern in the most of the world, because they are many that have learn how to live appropriately with the native species. I don't think that the work that I did during the last months has not been worthless because I really think that the bullfrogs are damaging the local ecosystem and that they must go from here.
Thanks to this project I have improved so much my writing and I think that I am able to write more professional essays. About the ecology I have learn how different parameters (Phosphates, dissolved oxygen...) affect the water and the ecosystem. My presentation and speaking skills have improved so much and I am really thankful to Colleen who has worked so much trying to help me.
